Dementia Care Resources

This list is not intended to be exhaustive but will provide an idea of what help is available across Hertfordshire.

  • Herts Memory Pathway - click on the image to see the journey from diagnosis to support and the different agencies and organisations involved across Hertfordshire

  •  Admiral Nurses - specialist dementia nurses, supporting carers of Loved Ones with dementia. Initial contact is through Carers in Herts.

  • Alzheimers Society - support for all types of dementia, but especially the most common, Alzheimers.

  •  Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is a world-leading, UK-based service led by the UCL Dementia Research Centre.  Based in Queen Square, London, they aim to empower, guide and inform people living with a rare dementia diagnosis and those who care about them. They specialise in the following 7 rare and uncommon forms of dementia: Posterior cortical atrophy (PCA),  Primary progressive aphasia (PPA), Familial Alzheimer’s disease (FAD), Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Familial frontotemporal dementia (fFTD), Lewy body dementia (LBD), Young-onset Alzheimer’s disease (YOAD).

  • AgeUK has produced a range of booklets for those living with or caring for someone with dementia

  • Groups & Activities in Hertfordshire 
    • Music24 - music therapy for dementia and singing cafes in Watford, Welwyn Garden, Stevenage and Cheshunt
    • All Sorts dementia group in Essendon & Ware providing 4.5 hours carer-respite
    • Hertswise - day centre dementia activities across Herts and a monthly carer-respite group 

    • Jewish Care - community & day centres in Barnet & Stanmore, Memory Cafe, Singing groups and community support

    • Red Shed gardening and art for dementia in Stevenage with a carers group.

    • Open Art Box - visual arts for those with dementia across Hertfordshire 
    • Herts Musical memories - dementia singing group, various venues across Hertfordshire
    • Golden memories - a 12 week programme to stimulate memories through football reminiscence and activities, at Watford Football club. This is followed  up with the opportunity to join other future Watford FC dementia sessions as one of their ‘Golden Friends’.
  • Suggestions for things to do indoors appropriate for those with dementia
  • Dementia Friends - a national initiative to spread understanding of what it is like to be living with some of the common forms of dementia.
