Family Corner
For the under-6s and their families
At Radlett Reform Synagogue, we welcome families with small children to our services. As well as regular children’s activities and family services, we have an area of the synagogue set aside for families with children under 6.
This Family Corner has four purposes:
• To give young children an age-appropriate experience of being in synagogue
• To help children to grow up feeling ‘at home’ in the service
• To ensure that the rest of the congregation are not disturbed by the children
• To occupy the children so that their parents can participate in the service
There are lots of soft toys, books and puzzles for your children to use.
Please feel free to take the toys etc out into the Kids’ Corner at the bottom of the stairs through the door, if your children are feeling restless. There are also toilets with a changing table and potty nearby.
Please be aware, especially if the Family Corner is busy, that you are still in a synagogue and that noise does disrupt the service for other people. Please be prepared to take your child out to the Kids Corner, particularly during ‘sensitive’ parts of the service, such as:
the Study Passage
the Torah and Haftarah readings
the Sermon
Kaddish (memorial prayers)
You are welcome to come straight back into the service whenever your child is ready.
We hope that the Family Corner helps you and your children to enjoy and participate in the service.
