CCJ

We are grateful to members and non-members alike for their support over another successful year. This began with a lovely, hospitable reception from the Sikh temple in Watford, giving us glimpses of different aspects of their faith and worship. We have made around ten of these popular annual visits (This July the Bhaktivedanta Manor in Aldenham).

In October we had a discussion on Christian /Jewish rites on Baptism, Baby Blessing and Circumcision. Listening to Rev Maureen Taylor’s fascinating presentation on the Christian rites, some of us found our minds going back to a memorable dialogue between herself and Rabbi Alexandra Wright some years ago.

There followed in December the always much appreciated supper quiz. Members on arrival were invited to limber up on the wall quiz, deciding whether the quotes were from Shakespeare or the Bible, before being handed over once again to our genial quizmaster for the evening.. There was general mystification at how our cooks could produce such a truly excellent supper for so small a charge and still make a profit for CCJ.

In February we had a notable talk on Music in Worship from Rabbi Ariel Able of the United Synagogue. Jewish tunes from different parts of the world demonstrated and explained to the evident enjoyment of everyone, Christian and Jewish alike. This is just the sort of result the CCJ was set up for, linking, interesting, indeed delighting members of synagogues and churches alike.

Lastly, 17th April, our AGM and the most welcome return of Rev David Ridgeway, one time Co-cordinator of this branch.

Norman Sofier
