4th Radlett Scout Group

This has been yet another good year. Numbers are 16 cubs & 23 beavers and we are now in the unfortunate position of not being able to take all those currently on our waiting list. Special events worth mentioning here include our first ever group BBQ which we held at our local camp site (Well End) in the summer & in November our shul held a special Scout Shabbat Service to help us celebrate 100 years of Scouting. Our new Beaver parent rota has been working very well, taking some of the pressure off our overworked leaders, thank you, but we really do need another full time Beaver Leader! This year we had a really excellent turn out for the Remembrance Day Parade in Radlett where we were highly visible in the community - thank you again to those that came & supported us.

Beavers
We have had a busy year: We looked at Healthy Eating & the Health & Fitness badge, which included a visit to a leisure centre, kick boxing, PE teacher & making healthy food. We also made pancakes, perhaps not so healthy, but what the heck! We also attended a Beaver disco. At Tu Bish'vat we planted trees & you can see a couple of our pots outside the shul. In the summer we did the Outdoor & Adventure badge, including a visit to Aldenham Country Park & Shenley Park to learn about the Countryside Code. We also held the first of hopefully our annual rounders match versus the 1st Radlett, & in July we joined the cubs at their annual weekend camp for one day. We also attended the national Gilwell fun day. In the autumn term we looked at the Discovery & Creative badge which included making & attempting to fly kites, designing cars & boats. We supported the “Make a wish” charity & we helped run a stall at Shenley Park Apple Day.

Cubs
As with previous years, we have undertaken many activities this year in addition to the regular Tuesday evening meetings. These include the District Quiz, the District Badge day, Cyclo-X, Six-a-side football competition, a couple of night hikes, a weekend camp and other district activities. Unfortuantely sports day had to be cancelled – we’re still waiting for summer! As part of our outdoor and adventure badges we visited Aldenham Country Park and the national Gilwell fun day. We also supported the “Make a wish” charity. We more recently undertook the Swimmers badge and will be performing for you today for the entertainers badge.

Thanks to everyone involved in the organisation and running of the Group – especially to Linsey, Rochelle & Sarah who have been running Beavers and to Jo, Sarah, Paul & Daniel who have been running Cubs. Thanks also to Ken Jones (chairman), Susie Benjamin (Treasurer), Matt Jefferson (parent representative) & to David Jaye (our auditor). And also thanks to David Mitchell, our student rabbi, who has come and helped out on several occasions as well as taking the lead in the recent Shabbat service.

We are always on the lookout for more help so please don’t hesitate to contact me to offer your services.
