Premises & Facilities

shul_frontOur Synagogue has a prominent position on Watling Street in Radlett. If you come by car, you can park in Newberries car park behind the shops opposite us. We have disabled access to the building. Inside, we have a disabled ramp to the bimah so that everyone can participate equally in services.

At the rear of the Synagogue, we have 2 halls (one upstairs, and one downstairs) that are used for a variety of events. They can also be hired for private functions and parties. For details of hall hire, click here.

We are fortunate to have an excellent library containing many books covering all areas of Judaism.

The premises are used for clubs and activities and meetings of our various committees. For more details, see Our Community.

Four Rabbis and a Menorah

In an unprecedented act of co-operation, Radlett & Bushey Reform Synangogue, Radlett United Synagogue and Radlett Lubavitch agreed to erect a communal Menorah outside the Radlett Centre. The low cost, all weather, menorah was of modest dimensions and of environmentally friendly construction.

During Chanukkah, Rabbis Paul Freedman, David Mitchell, Ariel Abel and Sendy Dubrawsky lit the Menorah, and, despite occasional sub-zero temperatures and snow storms, were joined by a wide and varied range of members from the Jewish and Christian communities who were treated to guitar music, latkes and donuts.

Larger Community = Larger Sukkah

Too accommodate our ever growing membership, Jonty Brandon and Lawrence Turner rose to the challenge to construct a Sukkah 200% larger than last year. Many thanks to you both and to all those who helped decorate it and to Alfred Boyden who installed the lighting. sukkah_2009

New Building Project: Eit Livnot

We have been looking at ways to redevelop the old back hall site to provide much needed additional accommodation for our Synagogue.

Our community continues to grow and we need greater capacity for many of our services and also require more rooms and facilities for all our groups as well as our youth activities.

New Library Acquisitions

Preliminaries by Yizhar Smilansky [reviewed by Barry Hyman]

Yizhar Smilansky (pen name S. Yizhar) who died in 2006 aged 90 was in the forefront of Israeli writers and in his last novel 'Preliminaries,' reasserted that position. Translated by Rabbi Dr. Nicholas de Lange, and available in the synagogue library, it is a strongly autobiographical novel, which progresses frame by frame, showing a boy growing up in a Jewish farming community in Palestine and in the young city of Tel Aviv in the 1920s.

How Can I Help?

One of our key aims is to develop our premises as a centre of excellence for all our activities.

Our ongoing building management programme ensures that we enjoy a
well maintained and safe environment. We achieve this through the use of a mix of paid professional and volunteer professional and amateur craftspeople.
